Pope Alexander VII and the Cistercian Observances
- The Cistercian "War of Observances" took place in the 17th century and divided the order according to the Common Observance and the Abstinents. Pamphlets and litigation followed in great amounts. During the pontificate of Alexander VII, the conflict reached its climax: the pontiff called representatives from each faction to Rome.
